Eat, Pray, Love

August 27, 2012 by Beth Meyer

Our first full day in Ubud, we decided to really get into the spirit of the place and zen out. We booked a yoga class, followed by an hour and a half long massage. We heard about this spa and yoga retreat, Taksu, online and decided to try it out. It was amazing! We basically got our own private yoga class from Made, followed by one of the best massages I have ever received. We decided to try out the Ayurveda Yogic Massage because they were having a special on this particular type for $100,000 INR ($10). $10 for an hour and a half massage – sign me up! The downfall was that the only appointment they had available for the day was a couples massage. Ha, oh well. Now, neither one of us was entirely sure what the Ayurveda Yogic Massage was, but basically we were in this small, bright room with floor to ceiling windows, tucked away in the Taksu Retreat, where we were instructed to put on the funny underwear and nothing else. Hmm, okay…all modesty went right out the window. Our massage was on a mat on the floor and was a combination of oil, some kind of scrub, and a small Balinese women walking on and stretching me every which way. It was marvelous. Following the massage, I took one of the most amazing showers of my life. Maybe that’s too strong of a statement, but it was a rain type showerhead, with great pressure and hot water. After staying in hostels, and such for the past month in a half, it sure felt like the greatest shower of my life. After we were squeaky clean, we dined in the spa restaurant and had a delicious lunch for around $5.

We walked around Ubud a bit, checking out the town and the cute shops. I really think I’m going to like it here a lot!
