Our plans for Cape Town always included hiking Table Mountain, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. On a Tuesday morning, bright and early, those plans came to fruition. The day after the Lady Gaga concert. Where we figured we’d enjoy a beer or two at the show and we’d be back at the hostel by midnight, at the latest…
Well, things went south when my iPhone and Danielle’s camera were pickpocketed. If you’re keeping up with the blog, you already know that said pickpocketing led us to round two of closing down The Dubliner and a 5am McDonald’s trip.
You can’t come to Cape Town and hike Table Mountain. It’s an absolute must-do. I would however suggest getting a decent night sleep and perhaps not downing numerous cocktails the night before. At least we worked off our early morning Mickey D’s snack. (I should also note, that my friend Daniela warned me that it wasn’t an easy hike and we shouldn’t drink much the night before…shakes fist at theivery)
We made it to the top!! As is the case with any beautiful scenic shot – commence photo shoot. Despite the wind, it was a really gorgeous day for hiking Table Mountain.
The views from the top made the trek up completely worth it!
Since it was so windy that day, we had to hike back down the mountain as well. If you can (obviously Mother Nature is in play here), try hiking Table Mountain on a less windy day when the cable car is running. Then you can enjoy the hike up and take a nice, leisurely ride in the cable car down.
We may be smiling but if this were video, you’d hear lots of grumbling. 😉
Have you hiked Table Mountain? What did you think of it?
I love everything about this post from what you said to the amazing pictures!! Cape Town isn’t on the top of my list, but I love hiking so much that this adventure is making its way towards the top!! Thank you for sharing this!
Thanks so much Mimi!! Cape Town has so much to offer…hiking, beach, wine, great food! It’s a really amazing city. 🙂
