Copacabana is the main stop for the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca, the highest lake in the world (3,812m) and is a nice, quite relaxing lake town. I met a fellow Southerner, Dave, who was on the same path up to Cusco as I was, so we decided to stop in Copacabana together.
While we were there we visited Isla del Sol, one of the largest islands in Lake Titicaca. Our boat dropped us off at the north part of the island and we spent the day hiking from the north to the south. The hike totaled around five hours and provided some spectacular views of the lake. Make sure on the hike to have at least 30 Bolivianos extra, as they charge you ‘entrance fees’ to continue walking towards certain parts of the island.
