I made it to Mancora for the big 31st birthday. The good news is that everyone at the hostel doesn’t believe it when I tell them I’m 31. That gives me free reign to continue acting a good five (on some days ten) years younger than I actually am, right?! 😉
I’m working hard by the pool to get back my Africa tan and catching up on some reading. I’m also eating my way through the Loki menu. Having a wristband tab is ultra convenient and I’ve eaten every meal here except one so far. What can I say, I’m apparently a creature of habit and ease. Back in Vietnam, we were mocked by a friend who was staff at the hostel we stayed at in Hanoi for eating every single meal except two (those two were the start of our Anthony Bourdain trail) at Hanoi Backpackers Ma Mae (still my favorite hostel!!).
- Spent my actual birthday reading Gone Girl…are you KIDDING me?! Great book and such a quick read, but not a huge fan of the ending.
- Wonder by RJ Palacio. I started reading in the morning and finished that night. It was a REALLY, really sweet story about kindness. I cried, twice. Read immediately. Such a good recommendation by my former cheerleading coach.
- Currently reading (and enjoying so far): The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
There have been some pretty fabulous sunsets since I’ve been in Mancora. I’ve been enjoying taking a stroll on the beach and watching the surfers take their final waves as the sky turns all pink and pretty! I’m also learning how to play chess. So far, I’ve won one game. Then, there are the quintessential nightly hostel bar games. My favorites are pub quiz night, beer pong and flip cup. I was in the flip cup championship once, but alas we were beaten in the final seconds. Perhaps before my stay is over, I can secure a championship team.
