Week 32 of pastry school started out with a new unit of study on food safety. In order to make learning about food safety more fun, we broke into groups and created a short presentation and game covering various topics of food safety. The best presentation was probably hand washing group because it included this glorious video (and dance!).
We’re diving more in depth on the importance of food safety, covering the regulations, hazards and food-borne illnesses. A lot of information we’re covering in each unit is beginning to build on one another to really reinforce the materials before our exam on June 4th.
Another one of the areas was discussing the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE). We had a competition to see who could dress their chef the fastest. It was hilarious because the clothing was randomly pulled and didn’t exactly fit… Won and I won. I was nearly crying the whole time from laughing so hard. 🙂
During tutorial, we went over our past projects and the current food safety assignment, as well as discussing where I would like to do my work experience. This is something I have some loose ideas about, but need to focus and come up with a plan!
After tutorial, I spent a few hours in the chocolate lab practicing my skills and working on some salted caramel and raspberry chocolates. It’s very therapeutic being by yourself in the chocolate lab. Maybe it’s all the sampling. 😉
